It’s called the SpoofCard, and it’s the best way to have some fun on a boring afternoon. They have a free trial to use the SpoofCard, at www.spoofcard.com. Here’s what the SpoofCard does:

*Call someone from your phone and the person’s Caller ID displays any number that you want them to see.

*Change the tone of your voice to the point that you’ll be unrecognizable even to your closest friends and family.

*Perfect for capturing important information, prank calls, or simply to keep a phone call as a backup for future reference.

It is one credit per minute to use the SpoofCard feature. SpoofCard has 25 credits available for $4.95, and 60 credits available for $9.95.

Using the SpoofCard is really easy. It is available as an Iphone App, or for use through the website, www.spoofcard.com. Choose who you want to call. Choose the ID number to display. Choose between a man voice, a normal voice, or a woman voice. Also choose whether you want to record the call or not. Here is a Prank call I made using the SpoofCard:

I highly recommend using the SpoofCard. It is enormous amounts of fun, and it works really well. The possibilities are endless with the SpoofCard.

While this author doesn’t agree with the use of caller id spoofing to harass people, but it does bring up an excellent point. When you are trying to make important phone calls, especially of a legal nature, you may want to insure that the place you’re calling from is protected. Whether it’s a custody dispute or the threats of a lawsuit, you may wish to make sure that your caller id, and thusly your location is obscured as well.

Here is the prank call:

If you’re looking to make sure your caller ID is blocked on a specific number everytime you call it, and you’re using Verizon as your telephone carrier, you’re in luck because it’s so easy to do. The Verizon website outlines it like so:

Caller ID Blocking
To Deactivate Caller ID on individual outbound calls:

Press *67.

Dial the number.

Press SEND. The words “Private,” “Anonymous,” or some other indicator will appear on the called party’s Caller ID device instead of your wireless number.

To Deactivate Caller ID on all calls to a specific number:
Press *82 + the number + SEND.

So, whether it’s on a land line or a cell phone, you can dial *82 before a number and you’ll always have that number blocked from then on.

Also, if you’d like, you can set it so that every outgoing call is automatically Caller ID Blocked. This is accomplished by:

Sign-in to My Verizon.

Click on the My Plan tab.

Click on Add/change features.

Check the box near “Caller ID Blocking.”

Click the Next button at the bottom of the form.

Verizon is awesome if you’d like to block your caller ID. If you’re looking to Spoof it and show something besdies “Blocked” or “Anonymous” you can use a service like Spoofcard to change your number.

There are many ways to block your caller id, some are more effective than others. The most traditional way to block caller id is to use the standard star codes. Almost every phone company, including the cellular carriers, will list your number as private if you dial *67 before the number. If you’re using a land line, the proper way to do this is to dial *67, the dial tone will “blink” at you, then just dial the number as you normally would. The number will show up as “Private” on caller ID. If you want to do it with your cell phone, just type in *67 before you put in the rest of the number and hit the send button. This will block the caller ID information from going through. This does not mean your call is untraceable, just that the person will not be able to see your number.

If you’re looking for a little bit more of a robust system, you should consider spoofing your caller ID. For as little at $6/hour, you can have any phone number you’d like. Imagine being able to call someone from 411. Imagine being able to send your home number instead of your cell phone number. Imagine being able to call someone as themselves. This is the power that you have when you block your caller ID with SpoofCard. You can try it free on their website. Click Here.
